who we are and why we run inconfidence.org
We believe that it is important for you to know who runs inconfidence.org and why
we do it.

"Through my studies I became interested in the plight of rape victims and the many
hurdles they must surpass in order to obtain justice through the legal system. It is an
unfortunate fact that the majority of victims of sexual crimes never reach that goal and
are left feeling let down by the system. Sexual crimes are extremely difficult to prove
in court, unless there is forensic evidence, as the incident/s usually takes place in
private without any witnesses and the case pivots on one person’s word against another's.
It is widely believed that of the number of people raped or sexually assaulted only one
in ten come forward to make an official complaint to the police. Of the few who do
report the crime only a tiny minority manage to secure a successful conviction.
This website has two main objectives: to provide a forum where survivors of sexual
crimes can contact each other in order to communicate their thoughts and emotions about
their particular experience/s thus ending their sense of isolation. Secondly, the
website will act as a means of gathering information through an anonymous questionnaire
which will provide a more realistic figure as to the actual extent of these crimes.
The findings of the statistical evidence will be presented to interested pressure groups,
MPs and relevant government departments. It is important that the full extent of the
sexual crimes taking place within our society is highlighted.
Many victims feel they cannot find peace unless the perpetrator has been brought to
justice. The shortcomings of the system as it stands must be addressed. It is essential
that the legal system be overhauled so those victims of sexual crimes can turn to it
with confidence, it is hoped this website will provide a means to that end."
